Brecon Energy Limited is a joint venture company established in 2015.
The joint venture brings together SPE Energy was established in 1983 for the North Sea oil industry with a range of products and services that support projects and installations at all stages of development, build, service, maintenance and operation, with ELMECON Ltd, a specialist switchgear design and development company which was created in 1990 and has provided design and technical assistance to over 50 companies in 30 countries.
SPE bring its wealth of experience in the installation, testing, commissioning and maintenance of switchgear, transformers and protection, while ELMECON brings a wealth of knowledge in switchgear design, development, testing, certification and technologies employed in modern-day switchgear manufacturer.
Brecon Energy Limited was created to bring technical innovative solutions to the switchgear distribution market.

John C Skipper
John is an energy industry executive and consultant with over 30 years' experience in upstream oil and gas, midstream processing & transportation, downstream refining & chemicals, power generation and power systems manufacture, throughout the world. During his 25 year career with BP and prior to retiring in July, 2013 he occupied various VP and Asst. General Counsel roles and held directorships in numerous BP operating subsidiaries including BP Exploration Operating Company Ltd and Britoil. With the formation of SPE Energy Ltd a broad based energy consultancy in late 2013, John has worked variously as non-executive chairman of Systems Power Engineering Ltd (a company he formed and has partially owned since 1983) and acted as a consultant for Burness Paull LLP in respect of RWE’s 5 TCF West Nile Delta Project in Egypt in 2014.
David (Dai) Roberts
Dai left Wales, having served his apprenticeship with Alcan Aluminium Industries in Rogerstone, Newport, to join Brush Switchgear Loughborough in 1975 as a junior design draughtsman. Amongst a number of products, Dai was primarily involved with the RMU range of switchgear. Dai spent 10 years at Brush, moving up the ranks to engineer-in-charge of the RMU division. For the next 5 years Dai worked alongside Trevor Marshall and Alfred Hodkin (original founder of Elmecon with Dai & Trevor) before joining forces to form Elmecon Ltd in 1990. Dai has designed and developed switchgear with Elmecon for companies of all sizes worldwide for the past 25 years. With over 40 years' experience in the switchgear industry, Dai now heads up the design team for Elmecon as project director.
Trevor Marshall
Trevor joined Brush Electrical Engineering Ltd Loughborough in 1971 as a technical apprentice, joining Brush Switchgear Ltd in 1973 to complete a five year apprenticeship. Trevor was involved with design and development and certification of the first FV type vacuum circuit breakers produced by Brush. Trevor led the design teams on 7.2kV motor control-gear Hawkvac 6 and 12kV VMH vacuum switchgear. Trevor was engineer-in-charge of design, development and certification process on 12kV VMV switchgear. Following the formation of Elmecon Ltd in 1990, Trevor has led Elmecon through 25 years of design, development and testing for companies of all sizes worldwide.
Jeffrey (Jeff) Jones
Jeff is a Chartered Electrical Engineer (Westminster, 2001) with over 40 years' experience in the application design of 11kV & 33kV electrical protection and control systems. During his 15 year career with South Wales Switchgear, Hawker Siddeley Switchgear Ltd and British Brown Boveri, he became the chief diagrams and protection consultant. Jeff's experience includes global design of 11kV and 33kV distribution and generation for utilities, off-shore oil and gas installations, airports, hospitals, stadiums, oil and gas refineries, ports and many industrial complexes. In 1983 he jointly formed Systems Power Engineering Ltd, which commenced its business with commissioning and testing electrical installations up to 400kV. The company soon became a recognised authority for providing electrical solutions to users of 11kV and 33kV switchgear.
